Enrollment Process & Training Handbook
  • To earn the Airfield Ground Lighting Certified Airfield Professional (AGL-CAP) credential, an individual must attend the AGL-CAP program and successfully complete a 100-question, open-book, multiple-choice examination with a 70% score or better; Students are not required to take the exam. Testing occurs Friday morning and the program will conclude at 100 p.m 
  • All materials will be provided upon arrival including a welcome gift and your Airfield Maintenance Reference Handbook used during the training and testing
Maintenance Seminar Topics
 
  • FAA Regulatory Documents – Brief review of critical FAA Advisory Circulars that impact maintenance of airfields Series Circuit Safety – FAA AC recommendations on safety, review of lock-out tag-out requirements and Arc Flash overview
  • Series circuit theory of operation, diagnostic and troubleshooting
  • Series circuit components including series cutouts and isolation transformers
  • Airfield fixture torquing overview and compliance with FAA AC 
  • L-828 / L-829 Constant Current Regulators (CCR) – Different types and technology. Review of control and monitoring functions, electrical performance and proper sizing of airfield loads.
  • CCR theory of operation for thyristor and ferroresonant Calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Approach equipment including L-849 REIL and L-880 PAPI
  • Runway and taxiway in-pavement lighting L-850, L-852, L-852G
  • Guidance signs L-858 and performing LED sign retrofits Base can L-867, L-868 installation overview and components demonstration

Airfield Laboratory Hands-on 

  • 5kV splicing connector kit lab (everyone completes a 5kV splice)
  • CCR calibration and troubleshooting 
  • Series circuit diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • L-849 REIL diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • L-858 LED sign diagnostics and troubleshooting and retrofitting incandescent
  • L-880 PAPI diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • L-829 monitoring and distributed control system monitoring (ACE) 

Training Schedule and Completion Certificate 

Training begins promptly at 830 a.m. on Tuesday so we recommend arriving at the hotel on Monday night The training program will last 3.5 days Tuesday thru Thursday 830 a.m -5:00 p.m. and the optional AGL-CAP Certificate testing occurs Friday 8:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. To receive a Completion Certificate, you must attend all three (3) days of training in full 

Prestigious AGL-CAP Certificate 

To receive the prestigious Airfield Ground Lighting Certified Airport Professional certificate, official title and the special Training Academy “Wings” pin, you must successfully complete a 100-question, open­book, multiple-choice examination with a 70% score or better. Testing for the AGL-CAP Certificate occurs on Friday from 830 a.m. -1 00 pm. A boxed lunch will be provided to take with you. Students are not required to take the exam. 

Hotel

A block of rooms will be reserved at the reduced rate of $ 109.00 per night (not including taxes) at our preferred hotel below. When making reservations, reference the ADB SAFEGATE Training Academy to get this reduced rate. Check in is at 3 00 p.m. and check-out time is 12 00 p.m

Transportation

Transportation from the Comfort Suites hotel to and from the Event Center is provided each day by ADB SAFEGATE Academy bus. The bus boards each morning at 7:45 a.m., leaves promptly at 8:00 a.m. and returns to the hotel each evening around 5:00 p.m. after training. Bus transportation is also provided to a special dinner event that is held Wednesday night.

If you choose to commute or stay at a different hotel, you are responsible for your own transportation. The address for our Maintenance Seminar is:

Meals

A hot continental breakfast is included each day in the hotel lobby. Lunch, snack breaks and refreshments are provided each day of training at the Training Academy. A special dinner event is also included Wednesday night. Dinner will be at your own expense onTuesday and Thursday night.

Dress

Dress is casual consisting of pants, jeans, skirts, shirts with collars or not, blouses, sweaters, vests, sweatshirts and casual shoes or tennis shoes. Please no open-toed shoes, sandals, shorts, tank tops or athletic wear such as yoga pants or sweatpant.
